Mackay District Special School Open Day 2014

In May 2014 we celebrated Education Week with an Open Day. The students invited their families to come to their classroom and see all the great work they have been doing.
After a tour of the classroom everyone went out into the playground for a picnic morning tea. The staff from the NAB Mt Pleasant provided a sausage sizzle and coffee. The school Health and Wellbeing committee donated bottles of water.
The highlight of the morning was seeing our Senior students being awarded their ASDAN achievement certificates. Her Worship the Mayor Cr Deirdre Comerford was the guest of honour and did a wonderful job of presenting the certificates. This has been a tremendous achievement as we are the first school in Queensland to have awarded Preparatory ASDAN certificates after having passed moderation processes in the UK. Our students now have internationally recognised qualifications.
The Open Day also served as the launch for our Kids Matter Framework. We are a Kids Matter school which means we work together as a team with families, school staff and the wider community to support student’s mental health.
